We recognise that nationally, Key Stage 3—and Year 9 in particular—can often feel like a phase with less at stake, lacking the immediate pressure of external terminal examinations. Consequently, statistics show that some young people during this transitional stage feel less visible, less pushed, and less valued by their wider educational communities. At Lift Kingswood, we proactively tackle this perceived "Key Stage 3 dip." We treat these years as fundamental to a student's academic self-worth, ensuring that every year group receives an outstanding education.

The school commits to an ambitious "baselining" model across all subjects, where every single student is stretched. We explicitly reject the notion that a student's age or numerical year group should restrict their access to higher-order content. In every classroom, teaching will be directed to the absolute top of every students’ current ability, with meticulous scaffolding provided so that no student is left behind. The school commits to ensuring that Key Stage 3 lessons are delivered by subject experts who provide outstanding learning every day, never seeing a learning challenge as a ceiling to a child’s potential.
Our Starting Action: To guarantee this challenge is realised, school leaders commit to holding regular, rigorous, individual pupil progress discussions with class teachers. In these strategic sessions, leaders will rigorously analyse data for individual Key Stage 3 pupils, holding teaching staff directly accountable for meeting ambitious class targets and eliminating any underperformance.
